A Voyage for the Ages – VY 7/8/2024 – 7/15/2024

Great news! It’s not Tru water. We ordered Evian, but seeing that it’s not Tru, I am going to use up any leftover D+ vouchers on these. 

But there is also bad news. It’s not Malin & Goetz in this room. I am going to have to inquire about this. 
 

2 Bedroom Grand Suite on Voyager

Entryway 

Once you walk in, to the left is the second bedroom that sleeps up to 4. To the right are 3 doors. One door is the closet for the second room, one door is door into the master, and the last door is the second bathroom.

The master has two entries. One is the door right off the entryway, the other is the sliding door from the living area.

Balcony 

Being a ship that is almost 25 years old, there is considerable wear and tear in the room. But that is to be expected. Overall, we like this cabin better than the one on Liberty last year. The balcony is in better shape for one, and the updated furniture seems a bit more clean. We have not found underwear in any drawers yet, and D15 said that because of the slightly different layout, this room seems a bit larger and spacious. Perfectly fine to transport us from one port to another. 

So last year on LB it was kettle controversy and now it’s Malin & Goetz controversy. Our room attendant came in to check on us and I mentioned the missing M&G amenities to her. She is super nice btw. She said on other ships she has been on, this suite has M&G. But she was surprised when she signed onto this ship and it did not. She said she would speak to her supervisor.

20-30mins later, the supervisor comes by. Then he tells me that M&G is only for top suites. I did not know whether to laugh or to turn on the suite snob. With a smile on my face, I explained to him as nicely as I possibly could that this suite does in fact quality for M&G products and if you want to look at the categorization chart, this suite is higher than a GS. He then came back with this is a “family suite”. At this point the suite snob is coming out. I told him he is wrong, and this suite 100% qualifies, and it’s ok my concierge email. Then he left and he said he will look into it.

I am going to be totally honest. I don’t think will use too many of my vouchers this time on patron or any other drinks. The long port days and early wake up calls are a bad mix with Patron. I cannot burn out and have nothing left for Rome. We looked at our tickets earlier and some of the meeting times for tours are 6:45am and 6:50pm

Yeah, I get it. This isn't the Caribbean. I'm sure you'll find time to slip in a drink here or there.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say @SweetPea would manage to use her vouchers and still see the sites (just not at 6:45am).

I just realized I forgot to answer this. Our guide told us that they think it might be done by 2026. But it’s been through so many delays so who really knows

Samaria! That’s the water we had all over Greece. Samaria Gorge is in Crete and they bottle it there! I remember thinking it was pretty good. We warned our cabin attendant that we drink a lot of water but they were not ready to face the absolute STOCKPILE of empty bottles, usually 15-20 all lined up on the vanity every day.

Turns out Hubby, who claims he would be perfectly happy in an inside cabin, was also unsatisfied lol. He has now ventured to the Crown Lounge to grab post dinner snacks

These comments always make me laugh because I hear the same from my guys. They like to label me as the only “suite snob” in the family. Then once onboard it’s non stop requests for their favorite beer, snacks, water etc. They talk a good game but that’s about it.

Oh and were the premium selections free for suite guests?? You know I know nothing about MDR but am curious.

This sounds like us!  I keep saying we have to get a better system for distinguishing our open water bottles because if in doubt I chuck them. I’m sure there is something out there if I looked.  

The room looks a lot better than I thought it would. Wow at them trying to gaslight you about the suite amenities. 

The "Welcome Aboard" menu is terrible and definitely the one I try to avoid. 

Did you cancel your Evian package? Also how did the internet options work out for you?

I'm pretty sure your suite concierge can take care of this for you. How strange that they say "family suite" when it's CLEARLY not labeled that way on the RC site. 

Looking forward to your thoughts on Valencia - it's on my list of places to visit someday!!!

Well we had already cancelled Evian because that was their solution to fix the corrupted reservation. We had to ditch Evian and Voom. We are all currently using our two free days and then on the third, I will buy the pro-rated 1 person/4 device plan. And since the water is not Tru, we are not allowed planning to purchase Evian on board anymore.

This balcony is in way better shape than the one we had last year on LB. I still don’t love the obstruction though. We have the walking tour booked in Valencia tomorrow. Will definitely let you know what I think.

After dinner we took a walk around, watched the welcome aboard show, bought our ship model, and went to redeem the rest of our D+ vouchers for water. The freeloaders were not happy campers. Lol

Off to bed now. Meeting for the Valencia walking tour at 8:30am. Minor annoyance, Chops breakfast does not open until 7:30am. Told the freeloaders they better eat fast.

My wife loves the peppermint bar soap. She may or may not have managed to procure some from a friendly cabin attendant even while staying in one of our caves (more then once).

You know the more I think about this, the more it doesn’t sit right with me. There are other 2BD GS on this ship. What if someone doesn’t know what they are supposed to be getting? They would not be doing right by all those people. Hubby rolled his eyes at me when I told him this

Here is our welcome letter when we stayed in that exact cabin on the Adventure. It clearly stated all the suite amenities. It's a very good thing you addressed this. Everyone sailing after you owes you gratitude and thanks!

This was my immediate thought. I am sure the newbies who book these suites just take whatever based on the way they handled your situation. Which is probably why the suite amenities seem to be going downhill, the majority don't know better and accept what is happening, while they charge insane prices.

I was just wondering if your cabin attendant was going to remove them after you guys depart or if you’ve corrected this error for everyone in that room moving forward!

gosh what have i BECOME?!

i LOVE the aft balcony (and of course i am sucker for a family photo!!) even though i hear you on the obstruction. in fact, i am pretty sure we stayed in this cabin category when we were on explorer and i remember the balcony being a dream. we did not do chops for breakfast though which i now regret.

Thanks for taking one for the team. We are in this suite for the Voyager group cruise and my mother will not stand for not getting the correct toiletries...even though she brings her own and doesn't use them.

I was wondering that too! And I could tell from the conversation that she is following orders. She basically needed me to speak to the supervisor directly to get things moving.

He rolled his eyes because most guys don't care that much, lol.  Give us some all in 1 body wash\shampoo\conditioner\tooth paste\hair gel\body lotion (or something like that) and we are happy!!

@Cactus527 we loved Valencia! More to come in a bit.

This was in the room when we returned from Valencia. I am assuming this is the Chef’s Choice D+ amenity. Not bad. We got cheese on top of the sad dessert plate. My peanut butter square is missing though.
